Who Is As Important as How

An undue focus on how we do social innovation creates the impression that it’s a specialty we must be trained for. Instead, social innovation is enlightened by who we are – by character, not technique. The conviction of today’s social innovators arises from their emotional and spiritual maturity. They pay attention to what nourishes and replenishes their spirits. And they have the humility to admit their limitations and fears.

In the final session of this six part series, Al interviewed social change expert and Director of Strategic Learning with the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, Darcy Riddell. The pattern discussed this week was, "Who Is As Important as How". Al and Darcy had an inspiring conversation about the power of self-awareness when enacting social change, maintaining perspective during the journey, and finding empowerment for actualizing change.

Please find below the recording along with the presentation slide deck. Please share it with your networks, colleagues and friends! We also had a number of thoughtful questions and comments from the audience both during the webinar as well as through social media - check out the Bookinar Storify to catch the conversation.
