Skating Towards Integral Evolutionary Consciousness

My pessimistic optimist friend Paul Born (Skating Together) is right. Things are going to get much worse before they get better. In fact they have to because it’s the nature of transformative change. There has to be sufficient chaos before systems self-organise to higher levels of complexity and cooperation.

I think we all know this to be true of our personal lives. We don`t really transform until we are virtually expelled from our old lives. Then we are sufficiently open and vulnerable to see the new potentials. At that point, disarmed from our old habits that simply no longer work, we die or we grow. Our hearts know the truth – we are here to create increasing truth, beauty and goodness in this world.

The good news is that the early stages of birth of a transformed world are going on every day – right now. It is happening in communities and individual lives all over the planet. Our heads don`t quite get it yet. The head says that we are having no impact, that the forces of chaos are too strong for our idealistic fantasies. But the fact of the matter is that the world is far too complex for our heads to figure out. We need to go to a deeper place of knowing. And in that place we discover an amazing truth -- that we are one with each other and our purpose is to evolve culture to higher levels of consciousness.

As such everything we do resonates throughout this miraculous creation and no deed is too small or unnoticed. I will be skating towards helping my head catch up to my deeper knowing. Being Integral for me means training my mind to develop more and deeper perspectives of this increasingly complex world. I have to learn how to hold my partial truths, hear the partial truths of others, integrate them where I can and hold the paradox where I cannot. I need to learn to decide and act from these uncomfortable places.

Being Evolutionary means identifying with the evolutionary creative thrust of the universe to birth what is wanting to be born, particularly birthing new forms of community into the world. I need it for me and we need it for us.

I clipped a piece of your blog and posted it below. This is some of the most profound wisdom I have heard in years.

This is learning that can transform people and places. It is the ability to really hear oneself as it is in relationships to all that is going on all around. For instance, hearing and then hearing how we respond to the hearing and learning to act and live this way in the moment.

Any tips on how one trains the mind to do this?

Also, can we get a blog sometime soon that shares the story of moving from your Ottawa community to the beautiful mountains of Mexico?

Best tip I have on training the mind is Integral Life Practice, Terry patten and Ken Wilber. Breaks into modules, spirit, mind, body and shadow the 4 main ones, plus other supplementary.

not quite yet ready to articulate overasll story of move, will start with pieces. Traffic (?!) is first up.
