They say, "Sharing is caring." Though we long to care for each other, our society is not designed in a way that appears to value sharing. It values independence, not vulnerability. We go to specialists with our issues, not our neighbours. All of this said there seems to be a shift towards the environmental, economic and social benefits of sharing. In this May issue, we've included some resources and stories that show the importance of sharing with others and steps we can take to make this an everyday practice.

We don't want you to miss out... Seeking Community is hosting its first ever, face-to-face learning gathering: Neighbours: Programs and Policies, June 10-12, 2013. We are nearly at capacity, so make sure you register today to get a spot.

There has also been a lot of great online activity this month. Seeking Community continues to grow with more members, more page views, a greater following on social media, and more blogs each month. We hope you'll join us in this journey and share your comments, stories and insights online as we continue to explore and learn together about the power of community.

Handpicked Highlights from SeekingCommunity.ca

Jim Diers - http://burgerkracht.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/jim-diers1.jpg Jim Diers has a passion for getting people engaged with their communities and in the decisions that affect their lives. Since moving to Seattle in 1976, he put that passion to work for a direct-action neighbourhood association, a community development corporation, a community foundation, and the nation's largest health care cooperative. He was appointed the first director of Seattle's Department of Neighbourhoods in 1988 where he served under three mayors over the next 14 years.

We are thrilled that Jim Diers will be joining in less than a month, for Seeking Community's first face to face gathering: Neighbours: Policies and Programs, June 10-12, 2013, in Kitchener, Ontario.

A Great Tool for Resource Sharing

Streetbank logo Something I have become increasingly interested in is resource sharing on a neighbourhood level. I will not attempt to discuss all aspects of it now because there is a lot to be discussed and I don't want this to be a one-time post on the topic. I simply want to get some dialogue moving around the topic. I know many people are interested in the topic but I haven't seen that much dialogue around it on this site...
